BACKGROUND

Lavonia R.G. McKnight aka Renee Love was born on October 25, 1972, in Florence, S.C. She spent her early childhood living with her family in Hartsville, S.C. In the early 1980’s as rap music began to flourish, she and her family moved to Philadelphia and Renee’s love affair with the art form began. Not being content to just listen to the music, Renee began to write lyrics Bs well, with her first rap song becoming a neighborhood hit.  The acclaim she received from that first song demonstrated the natural talent she had and led her to begin writing lyrics on a regular basis.

PERFORMANCES

As Renee became a neighborhood celebrity, her talent began to attract interest from people in the music industry.  She began recording with Lumberjack Productions and later began to perform at parties, after-roms, and talent shows. In the early 1990’s Renee was performing on a regular basis, including shows at Spring Garden College, Drexel University, and the Cornucopia Club.  These early shows helped her fine-tune her stage presence, while her professional career as a hairstylist gave her a hair & fashion sense which was unsurpassed by other female rappers.

THE PRESENT

After taking a few years off to establish herself as a topnotch hairstylist and to get married, Renee returned to rap music with a vengeance, writing & recording new material and performing on a regular basis. In addition to local performances, a first-place finish at the New Alternatives Talent Show in Philadelphia, she began performing in various places outside the area, including Delaware & New York. The highlight of these   non-local performances were third-place finish during Amateur-Night at the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem.

THE FUTURE

Over the years Renee has developed a sassy, hard-edged style which can compete with any rapper, male or female.  The dedication and effort that she puts forth will make her a well-rounded up and coming artist.
